(stay with me, this is a little complicated)
I am a regular listener to The Regular Guys radio show in Atlanta www.regularguys.com/. They used to have a regular caller (Mike Scott) who used to just make up words out of thin air, a practice he started when he was in high school. I can't remember many of the words, but they were basically just a bunch of sounds thrown together. One of the words was 'peteetong', which began to be used on the radio show as a general-purpose greeting, much like the word 'aloha' is used in Hawaii.
Part Two: The Regular Guys had/have a line where callers can call in and leave recorded messages, some of which are used as sound bites throughout the show. One guy called in and, in a heavy southern accent, said "peteetong, man". This sound bite began to be played in heavy rotation.
Part Three: I logged in one morning on the Yahoo Message Boards (sometime in 2006 or so) to find that the board tattletales had gotten my ID deleted, most likely for bad language. I was so pissed I couldn't think of a new nic right away, but I had the radio on and at that moment they played the "peteetong, man" clip. Peteetongman was born!
As a side note to the story, because it is over now thank God, Gh0sTeR picked right up on the reference because he lives in the Atlanta area, but most folks probably don't know what it means. Now you know ;-)
